Local rules before you book
Ohio licenses commercial plumbing contractors at the state level, and cities license residential plumbers, so ask about both. For a sewer backup, ask the plumber whether a camera inspection makes sense before any digging, and keep the video. It helps if the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District or an insurer asks questions later.
Know your Cleveland house
Contractors working in Cleveland must be bonded, insured and registered with the city. Hard freezes are common from December through February.
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District runs the Easterly, Westerly and Southerly wastewater plants. Older homes may still have a main stack of cast iron that has thinned inside over the decades, so a camera look before major work is a good idea.
Hard freezes are the big risk. Pipes along outside walls, in crawl spaces and near garage doors can split, and the leak often shows up only after the thaw. Lake-effect snow off Lake Erie falls heaviest on the east side and eastern suburbs.
Get ready for the call
Take a photo of the model label on the water heater, toilet or faucet if you can find one.

What people ask us
Which parts of Cleveland can you help with?
Most likely. We cover Old Brooklyn, Kamm's Corners, Glenville and Clark-Fulton and other parts of Cleveland, across 44101, 44102, 44103, 44104, 44105 and others. If no one is available, you will hear that from us up front.
Why is my water pressure low?
It can be a clogged aerator, a partly closed valve, a failing pressure regulator or old pipes narrowed by scale. If the whole house is low, check with your neighbors and the water utility first.
What causes a gurgling toilet?
Gurgling usually means air is being pulled through the trap because a drain or vent is partly blocked. If several fixtures gurgle at once, the blockage is likely further down the main line.
Is one slow drain worth a call?
One slow drain can often be cleared with a plunger or by cleaning the trap. Several slow or gurgling drains at once point to a problem further down the line.
If you are not sure which trade fits your problem, call anyway and describe it. We will tell you if it sounds like a job for someone else.
